Chapter 1: Blood dawn part 1

Charles Turner hated waking up so early. What could be so important that it can't wait a few more hours, so that he had time to eat something, drink some coffee and basically wake up. Nipping his ready to go coffee he navigated through the mild early morning traffic. With a disgusted face he looked at the black-brownish solution which he bought along the way. He wondered how people could daily drink this shit. Personally he still preferred a nicely home made cup of coffee. He wouldn't even call this coffee. So whatever they got for me there, it can't be much worse than this, he joked to himself. Taking another small nip from his coffee replacement he turned onto the airport parking lot. The many blue and red lights showed him exactly where he had to be. He pulled up as near to the door as possible and then ran to the terminal door, staying out in the cold weather and the rain as short as possible.
“Lieutenant Turner?”
“Yes”, said Charles, shaking out his jacket.
“Please come this way, sir.” said the young police man. Charles slowly trudged after the energetic cop. As he noticed this quickly, the young man paused from time to time to let Charles catch up. Softly talking to himself and without paying attention to his younger colleague he strode on sticking to his own slow tempo. Before he knew he was standing in front of an elevator, for a moment he tried to remember what route they took, but he couldn't remember. Only then he noticed he was still holding his coffee. After taking 2 nips the lift arrived. Charles soon noticed that the young man was nervous.
“So what have we got here?” asked Charles, trying to relieve the stress a bit.
“A massacre” was the short answer.
Charles sighed after some more silence. “I hate bloodbaths” he said shaking his head.
“It's not a bloodbath, Sir.”
For the first time that day Charles lifted his head. With a surprised look he stared at the young cop. Before he could ask what he meant with “it's not a bloodbath” the elevator stopped and the doors opened, revealing the most horrible and mysterious sight that Charles had seen his entire life.
As far as he could see there were human body parts, organs and bones spread out. They were all over the huge hallway he was gazing into. From his feet to the outer walls he saw nothing but the remains of what once were, god only knows how many people. Several minutes he stood there, totally frozen, astound by this surreal sight. Automatically he reached for his cigarettes, but this time it took him forever to put it in his mouth and light it. When he almost succeeded he heard a loud voice calling for him.
“Charles, what are you doing?!? Smoking in a public building AND on a crime scene? Of all the people in the world, you should know that this can not be tolerated.”
He knew there was only one person in the world who would talk to him in such a manner. While he put away his cigarette, his eyes scouted the room, looking for doctor Underwood. After he found the doctor he started making his way through the piles human remainders. Before he said something Charles took a last look at the path he just walked, shivering with fear and absolute repulsion.
“So, doctor, could you please tell what the hell happened here?”
“Well, actually it is your job to figure it out”, was the reply, “ but if you want i can give a hypothesis on the the events that likely took place here.”
“I'm listening.”
“Around 2 am someone or something entered the airport. Apparently through a normal route, since we have not found any signs of a forced entry. This would also mean that who- or whatever it was that did this, was looking like a human, else there would have been a fight and corpses nearer to the door. He then came to this terminal, where the people for the flight had to check in, he then started a fight in which he killed all the people present and shattered their body parts. After he feasted on some of the body parts, he probably just left.”
“And do you have any idea what could have done this?”
“Why do you say what? Do you already exclude the possibility of someone doing an act like this? You assume that it should have been some wild beast? I personally think that it must have been a human or at least some intelligent life form, I have looked at some of the remainders more closely and they seem to be removed with such a precision that it would be impossible, to complex for a beast to do this.”
“What about the claw marks then? I've seen scratches on the wall, they looked as if they came from a large strong feline.”
“Impossible! There is no animal strong enough to carve in concrete. Besides if an animal did kill them, he would have eaten a lot more of the victims, mainly their meat, which still seems to be abundantly present.”
“That means that it was some evil psycho, leaving marks like an animal to confuse people. Or maybe it's more something like a calling card. If that is right it might not be our last gruesome crime scene we're looking at.”
“I'd think more of a gang than one maniac. It could have been violent teenagers, thinking they were vampires or something. They had a special name, but I can't seem to remember it.”
“You mean gothics? And why did you say vampires? Couldn't it have been some occult ritual?”
“Yes, I meant gothics. Well take another good look at the hall. Didn't you notice anything strange? Like the total absence of blood?”
Now Charles knew what had been bugging him since the first moment, there was not a single drop of blood in the entire hall, yet hundreds of people were violently slaughtered there. This seemed a bit to complicated for a few raging younglings, to him. And how did they manage to kill all those people? With guns? Or knifes? Or swords? That was something the autopsy will have to reveal. So after they would have killed everyone, how did they manage to get rid of all the blood? Or maybe they used chemicals to make the blood clot and then cut them into pieces? His accumulating questions were interrupted by doctor Underwood.
“Now that I think of it, your insinuation on occult rituals might be correct, considering our masterpiece.”
“What masterpiece?”
“Come with me, I'll show you.”
